Having A Baby!

Having a baby is one of the most important occasions in a lifetime.
When the big day arrives, the caring, professional staff at PMC will help make the birth of your baby the special event you expect.
The Birthing Suite at PMC allows expectant mothers to labor, deliver and recover in the same location. In an effort to promote a family birthing experience, the Birthing Suite allows family members to remain present during this special event with physician approval. Patients recover up to four hours after giving birth in the Birthing Suite before moving to a post-partum room.
Epidural anesthesia is available during labor and delivery, as an anesthetist is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The epidural method is used to continuously deliver medication through a tiny catheter placed in the small of a woman's back. This allows most women to full participate in the birth experience, while relieving most of the pains of labor.
Following delivery, the newborn remains with the family in the Birthing Suite to promote bonding. All weighing, measuring and initial assessment are done by the staff in this birthing suite.
The room has been furnished to look and feel like home. "We try to honor birthing plans and labor requests when possible, keeping in mind the safety of the mother and infant," said Marcia Spahr, RN.
In connection with birth and childcare, PMC offers Lamaze classes at no cost to expectant parents delivering at PMC.
Newborn Basic class is the newest class to be offered. The class consists of four sessions, preferably to be taken before birth, and covers such topics as breast feeding, bathing, newborn care and illness. Classes meet on Tuesday evenings and are designed for both parents.
For more information on these classes, please call PMC at 402-375-3800 and ask for Marcia Spahr, RN or Laura Gamble, DON.
