Wayne State Athletics Announces Partnership with Providence Medical Center and Faith Regional for Athletic Training Services

This partnership will provide the Wayne State College Athletics game coverage during all home football contests, Athletic Training staff oversight, an on-campus orthopedic clinic for student athlete injury evaluation and monitoring, as well as a combination of state of the art medical facilities and surgical treatment within Wayne and Norfolk.
“Faith Regional is tremendously excited about the partnership between Providence Medical Center, Wayne State College and Faith Regional Health Services to provide comprehensive, high-quality sports medicine services to the WSC student athletes, as well as all athletes in the region," stated Jim Sinek, President and CEO of Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk. "This is another example of how Faith Regional and Providence are partnering to enhance the health services available in Northeast Nebraska. Dr. Russell DeGroote, a full time orthopedic surgeon at Faith Regional, will provide superb medical direction for the sports medicine program at WSC and, should medical care be required, will coordinate the continuum of care through Providence or Faith Regional.”

Russell DeGroote MD FRCS(C) is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. He has an extensive background in sports medicine. He was a collegiate athlete in hockey and rugby and is currently an orthopedic consultant for the NHL's Calgary Flames and St. Louis Blues Alumni. He has been a team physician for international events. He has a special interest in the knee and shoulder and the aging athlete.
